The Township of Adelaide Metcalfe provides animal care and control services through a combination of municipal By-Law Enforcement Services and the Humane Society London & Middlesex (HSLM).
Animal Control By-Law Enforcement
Animal control by-law enforcement services are provided through the Township's contracted By-Law Enforcement Services with the Municipality of Middlesex Centre.
Residents should contact the Township to report matters including:
- Dogs running at large;
- Dog bites or aggressive dogs;
- Other violations of the Township's Animal Control By-law; and
- Other animal control enforcement concerns.
To submit a complaint, please fill out a Complaint Form. Once the form is submitted their is no further action required as it has been received.
Humane Society London & Middlesex
The Humane Society London & Middlesex provides poundkeeping and animal welfare services for the Township, including:
- Poundkeeping and care of impounded animals;
- Redemption, adoption and disposition of impounded animals;
- Confined stray dog pick-up and transportation;
- Community cat management;
- Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiatives; and
- Collaboration with the Township and community partners on animal welfare matters.
Confined Stray Dogs
Residents who have safely confined a stray dog may contact the Humane Society London & Middlesex regarding pick-up and transportation.

For calls received outside regular municipal office hours, HSLM will determine whether the dog can safely remain confined until the next business day. Where this is not possible due to animal welfare or public safety concerns, HSLM may arrange transportation to the pound facility.
Carcass Removal
To report the need for a carcass to be removed from public property, please contact the Township at 519-247-3687.
Lost & Found Pets
To report a lost or found pet contact Humane Society London & Middlesex at 1-877-909-0519. If the pet has already been called-in or picked-up, they may be able to identify your animal right away.

Animal Cruelty
To report cases of animal cruelty, abandonment or neglect, please call the Province of Ontario's 24/7 Hotline at 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625). In an emergency, you can also contact your local police.
Dog Tags
- There will be no door-to-door collection of dog tags. If you require a dog tag, please contact the municipal office.
- The dog tags are now permanent tags, with the licence being billed annually.
- Payment can be made by debit, cheque or cash at the Township office. Payment can also be made online through your bank by adding “Adelaide Metcalfe Invoices” as a new payee. Be sure to enter your 10-digit customer number found on your invoice when making an online payment.
- Payment by e-transfer (EFT) is not accepted.
